A BIG THANK YOU From Polly

I stand down today as your acting DC and hand over the District to Steve and Andrea.

This is a short note of thanks to all who have given me their support when requested during the past year. I would like to thank those leaders who stepped up to the ‘peg’ to ensure their groups had a future, taking on additional roles on top of their already full-on responsibilities as section leaders. I am very pleased to say they did and are continuing to do a great job.  Thanks from me on behalf of all our young people who get so much from your support and hard work.

I also like to thank all the backroom team players, Training, H&R (Dan), Badge Secretary (Nige) and Web Master (Baz) who have given me and the District so much support. Thanks must go out to all the husbands, wives and partners of the uniformed leaders for their support allowing them to be Scouts (sorry Leaders) for all those hours. I must mention the full SAS team (The Fellowship) who have continued to provide support to the District and also ensuring "Fred's Shed" is kept in top order and for running the all-important Scout Post.

Our committees, the Members, Chairs, Secretaries and the all powerful Treasurers who work hard to get Newport’s Scouts the best support in the years past and into the future ensuring  ‘sure and steadfast’  management which was right for Newport in the past and will be going forward into the future..

2014 also saw the Water Activities Group develop their team and their skills to be able to offer top rate quality water sports on equipment owned by and managed by the District, good luck and good sailing into the future.

The gang show is now very much in full swing with the adults and youngsters giving their all for their next show later in 2015. “Break a leg” (O the paper work). Let’s not forget the Rogerstone Band, great fun give it a go!

This was going to be a short note, but before I go let’s not forget the many hours you all give week in and week out providing fun scouting across the District THANK YOU, parent, guardian, helper and uniform alike.

So cheers again as I set off back to cutting the grass at the 25th ready for the scouts to make full use of it during the summer 2015.

Welcome Steve and Andrea - good luck for the future

The Hunt is Over !

A NEW DISTRICT COMMISSIONER
It’s been almost 12 months since the District started to look for a new District Commissioner, one has been found and not only a DC but also an ADC. (Just like waiting for a bus?) I hear you say.

I would like to introduce Steve Crowley DC and Andrea Fairless ADC. I know Newport will do its best to make them welcome and make them feel very much part of Newport Scouting. I haven’t a plan of action from Steve at this moment but at our District Executive Meeting he did say he and Andrea will be spending time getting to know us all.

I am confident that Steve and Andrea will ensure Newport is in good hands and the concerns or worries that might arise in the future will be managed to ensure Newport comes out on top.

Steve and Andrea take on their roles as of the 1st March but might be out and about getting to know some of us before that date.
