Inaugural Newport District Beaver Camp 2012

This weekend (22nd – 23rd Sept) was the weekend that Newport Beavers had been looking forward to, it was camp weekend.

Forty one Beavers from across the district along with 18 leaders arrived en mass at Miskin Mill campsite nr Llantrisant for a weekend of Pirate adventures.

Saturday afternoon was warm and dry in the autumn sunshine and we made the most of this with lots of outdoor activities.

After our evening meal we made our way to the campfire …. Yes we had a real one!! Here we joined in a selection of songs led by Lynda Mills and Sue Messenger. After hot chocolate with floating marshmallows and biscuits the Beavers headed to bed absolutely exhausted.

We woke on Sunday morning to heavy clouds, 1st Marshfield who were camping managed to get their tents down just before the rain descended.

Breakfast was cooked and served by the catering team … Many thanks Les and Lynda, the food was fab.

The weather meant that all activities would have to be indoors but being good scouters we were prepared for this and various bases were set up for everyone to take part in.
We then had snacks before we played some games involving balloons and cannon balls.

Good things must come to an end and it was time to go home and Beavers had a dip into the treasure chest for sweets to take on their homeward journey.

Thanks to all the leaders and helpers for all their hard work in making this a very successful district event.

22nd landscape project

31st August

Exxon Mobil (based in Newport) donated some money and the time of their employees to help re-landscape the outside areas of our Scout Hut in Christchurch. All the work was completed on the one day with a new  fence, security / handrailings and a new campfire area being installed (BBQ, Benches and Firepit).

We wish to thank all those who helped on the day for their very hard work in completing this project.
