Jamboree on the Trail - report

JOTT 2014
Despite the best efforts of the British weather to stop them some 180 intrepid members of Newport District Scouts took the OUT in SCOUTING and participated in the annual international Jamboree On The Trail.

Newport’s event was held at the Newport Wetlands and involved beavers, cubs, scouts, leaders and active support.

Participants walked around the perimeter of the site and answered questions at various checkpoints.  Although it was extremely breezy in places there were no reports of people being blown over!  See you all again next year to enable Newport Scouts to show their support in the international world of scouting.

The 28th take on the Wye River Cruise

The Wye Cruise last weekend.

4 scouts and 3 young leaders from the 28th paddled 35 miles from Hoarwithy to Monmouth over last  weekend. The 3 young leaders did this unassisted and paddled the distance with all their kit, food and water gaining the paddle sport expedition award.

All had a good weekend the 4 scouts had not paddled that far before and I trust they slept well once they were clean.

Your challenge ahead – what Scouting will achieve by 2018
Scouting is already one of the greatest movements the world has ever known. Scouts have walked on the moon, rowed across oceans, scaled the highest mountains.
Our former Scouts are also social workers, teachers and foster parents: the people who make society work. We now need to make sure Scouting is available to the next generation of young people, and we have a plan to achieve this by 2018.
Tomorrow we will be announcing our ninth year of growth with 446,152 youth members. Thank you for your part in achieving this. By 2018 we want to bring Scouting to at least half a million young people and attract enough volunteers to help us do this.
We want to extend our reach so every young person in the UK has the opportunity to experience Scouting and prove we are open to all regardless of faith, gender, sexual orientation, race or social background.
Achieving our vision will take focus on clear goals to make Scouting a Movement that is growing, inclusive, shaped by young people and makes a positive impact in your communities.
View our Scouting for All plan.
Find out more about goals for your role and discuss with your team locally how you can achieve them. Discuss how young people can be at the heart of shaping all your plans and decisions too. Our young people have the hope, the talent and the ideas that will one day change the world.
Together we can do justice to the legacy of the millions of Scouts who have gone before us.
Yours,
Wayne Bulpitt, UK Chief Commissioner
Matt Hyde, Chief Executive
