Sainsburys funding opportunity
Info supplied by Area (other offers from other Retailers maybe available)
Sainsbury’s Welsh Community Grant Fund Guidelines
What is Sainsbury’s Welsh Community Grant Fund?
The Welsh Community Grant Fund is a Sainsbury’s programme specifically for Welsh projects. Grants of up to £500 will be awarded annually to charities and local community groups for a range of projects and activities which fit our core values of food, family, kids and health and also arts/culture, environment and social welfare
Organisations can be any size as long as they support the community in Wales. Any money that is not awarded by the end of the year will be donated to our Welsh stores' Local Charity partners.
This current round is now open and closes on 28th February. We hope that hundreds of local groups will take the time to submit an application.
Please read through our guidelines for applying below.
Why is Sainsbury’s doing this?
In October 2011, the Welsh Government introduced a 5p charge for single use carrier bags. We no longer provide customers in supermarkets with free single use bags which would be subject to the carrier bag levy. However, we introduced a 40p charge to each online grocery order to cover all single use carrier bags used in the delivery to comply with the legislation. This is a flat charge based on the average number of bags used per order. As part of our commitment to make a positive difference to our community, we have agreed to donate the net proceeds from the carrier bag levy to our Welsh Community Grant fund.
How much can we apply for?
Up to £500

Message from Coleg Gwent

I am just writing a short note to see if the course below would be of any interest to your Explorers in South Wales.
At
Coleg Gwent Usk Campus we offer a BTEC level 3 course equivalent to 3 A levels.
Students on this course take part in a 3-4 day week studying the theoretical
aspects of Sport and Outdoor Adventure and also take part in Practical days
allowing the students to develop skills in Water and Land based
Activities; (including Rock Climbing, Navigation, Mountain Biking,
Kayaking, Canoeing and Gorge walking). As part of the course they are also
given the opportunity to go on a variety of expeditions. The first being a Bushcraft
camp within the first few weeks.
The
course is open to students who have 5 GCSE’s at C or above or a BTEC level 2
First Diploma with English and maths. It is a 2 year course with the
opportunity to leave after 1 year with a 90 Credit Sport (Outdoor Adventure)
qualification: equivalent to 1 A Level.
I
have attached posters and contact information and ask could you kindly hand out
to the Explorer Scouts groups in your area?
If you have any questions or would like any more
information please don’t hesitate to contact either myself or David Windebank: [email protected]
We could also come down to a group in an evening and
run a talk on the course or offer some activities to the group if that would be
of interest to you?
Kind
regards
Sam

Neighbourhood Watch: Beware of Rebate scams
Useful information for our members
People have been receiving calls – both in person and on the phone, text or
letter – saying they are due rebates or reductions in the amount of Council
Tax/Income Tax/Water payments.
These scams are in a variety of forms. Some callers pretend an overpayment
has been made and the overpaid amount can be refunded if the victim provides
their bank details. Other scammers will allege you are due monies as a result
of a rebate.
In most cases, victims are asked to provide their credit card or bank
account details so the money can be refunded. There have been instances where
the caller has asked for a one off administration fee so the refund can
proceed.
Don’t be caught out by this scam. Anyone who thinks they may be eligible for
a refund should contact their local council, tax office or water company
directly on a verified phone number that can be found on a bank or utility
statement - never use the number the caller gives you.
Never give out your bank details to unverified callers. Anyone who has given
out their bank details to a caller like this should contact their bank
immediately
Reminder: Please never give personal information, including bank
account details over the phone.
If you'd like more crime prevention advice about scams and what to look out
for, please speak to your local officers - all details can be found on our
website: www.gwent.police.uk or you
can contact Action Fraud: www.actionfraud.police.uk

New Activity
Message from Ladybird Pottery
I'm very pleased to introduce a new activity for all ages in
Monmouthshire to try out. I have a Paint your own Pottery shop in Tintern,
called Ladybird Pottery. Here I have seating for 12 people and all the
equipment needed for everyone to create a beautifully hand painted item of
pottery. For groups of 10 or more I can also travel to your venue and provide
guidance to get the most from this engaging activity.
I was myself a Beaver Scout Leader for many years and I have
to say the trips out were the most fun! Therefore I would like to offer a
discount for any Scout groups of 15% off for groups of 10 or more painters.
This is a great activity not only for the kids themselves, but as gifts for
parents and grandparents.
Regards
Jo Colla
