It’s September so it must be Saturday fishing
competition, with over 24 cubs and scouts all keen to do their best, many
having the support from parents, grandparents and one sister even had her boy
friends support her brother, who is a
cub.
Weather started with heavy rain which kept
the fish and the ducks happy, but the scouts all kept bringing the fish home to
try and fill the keep nets. During the day the weather did improve to be sunny
and hot. After some 4 hours of hard work it was rods down and the big job of
weighing the fish.
As you can see this year all records were
broken, with one catch of over 35lb!
But all the scouts/cubs were all winners
by taking part, in the process developing a skill which will bring them many hours
of enjoyment in the future.
First place went to the Air scouts, 2nd
and 3rd to 1st Caerleon and Explorers. Many thanks go to Glyn and
Gareth for the time they put into organising the event each year and thanks also to the
Newport Angling Association who allow the scouts the use of the lakes.
