Climbing permit trainning for Adult Leaders
After a successful climbing permit assessment evening for Network members earlier in the year with our Area Assessor, I'm doing some initial planning for a similar event for adult leaders. To attend, you'll already be familiar with the relevant eqipment and knots, and will need to be able to belay competently. During the evening you'd have the opportunity to brush up the simple problem solving skills necessary to gain a permit. The venue will probably be Boulders in Cardiff, and the cost would be the entrance fee for the centre (currently £8), plus a small fuel contribution for the assessor. Success would lead to a permit for climbing (not abseiling) on in-situ ropes - this would cover you for taking young people to for example Boulders, and the YMCA in Newport (there is also a possibility of extension to cover Islwyn Scout Parc, depending on prior experience). If you weren't quite ready you'd be told what areas you needed to practice. If you would like to be included in the plans for this, please let me know so that I can co-ordinate suitable dates.Peter Sheppard
