SCOUTING IN NEWPORT

THE BIG ONE!

Newport's Centenary Camp

As the weekend approached we all had our fingers crossed that the predicted rain would not materialise over the weekend, and we all must have wished really really hard, because even with Polly (AKA the rain maker) on site the sun most defiantly had its hat on!

The camp for most people started on Friday evening, Where they were greeted at the gate with some funny waving from Polly and the camp team, all trying not to get run over in the car park.

It was then just a short walk carrying everything and in some cases including the kitchen sink to the camping area on the far side of the field. After finding our camp site amongst the other 15 groups it was time to say good by to our parents and hello to our friends and leaders, some of us were even lucky enough to have had our tents put up for us!

Just time for a quick game before we settled down to the centenary quiz, some were really easy whist others were imposable. We all got together for the first time in the big marquee to answer the quiz - wow there were a lot of people camping.

Saturday started early - Very early about 5 am, we had breakfast at about 8am and all got together for flag break and the official opening of the camp, the beavers started arriving and we started our day full of activates, we had a tiny little shower that soon cleared. thought the day we did:

Climbing Bouncy castle Circus sills
Waggle painting Clay pigeon shooting Craft tent
Giant bouncy slide 2 bouncy assault courses bungee running
Giant games Fire engine Mountain biking
Rock climbing Sports Flying
Jousting Music workshop Archery

We all stopped for tea about 5pm and we really did need it we were so tired, but the day wasn't over yet, we all gathered again for the camp fire it was huge, the fire was really hot and we all sang songs had had a really good time watching the leaders being silly and joining in with the songs!

Campfire soon finished and we all headed of to enjoy a hog roast, between us we ate a whole hog - well there was about 600 of us. Just as we thought it was time to go to bed there was yet another surprise!

A huge fire work display! - there were fountains and rockets screeching and banging away into the night. After the fireworks it was bed time, i was asleep as soon as i got into my sleeping bag.

Sunday morning and after breakfast we packed up our stuff, got together for a scouts own and had a go at some MORE activities laid on by the groups, there was giant games, badge making, origami towers, penalty shootout, grass heads, camp web log and cork catapults. We all waved at the explorer scouts who got to fly over the site in a light aircraft!

After helping pack away our tens we had lunch and then it was time to go home - i was really happy and very very tired. (and most were a bit smelly {edd.}) once again the camp team were at the car park showing us the way to go home with some funny waves!

A MASSIVE thanks goes to all those who worked so hard to make the camp a success and the archers for providing there activity for free! Thanks also go to Capita Symonds who part sponsored the event
