SCOUTING IN NEWPORT

Mayors Parade 2006

A brilliant hot and sunny Sunday was the setting for this years Mayors parade.

The parade that is held every year to introduce the new Mayor to the people of Newport was extra special this year with the new Mayor councillor Miqdad Al-Nuaimi presenting the freedom of the City to HMS Seven Newport's affiliated Naval Ship.

The parade left the Mansion House and made its way to St Woolos Cathedral lead by the Welsh Regimental Band and Newport's Pipe and Drum Band.

During the service in the Cathedral, the first time many of the Scouts have been in the cathedral, HMS Seven was presented with the freedom of the City.

The parade then left to march down stow hill and up to the Civic Centre where speeches were made and the Mayor inspected the parade pausing to talk to the cubs and scouts on parade.

Then we were all invited to get our goodie bags before we left for home.
