County Fishing Competition.
This year’s fishing competition was, once again, hosted at the Bob Small fishery by Newport Angling. Whilst the numbers were slightly down on previous years, the average catch was higher with a winning weight in excess of 2 pounds! (obviously, the coaching session on the previous Saturday paid off!) The winner was a member of Newport District who fished all on his own with no adult help at all – a MASSIVE well done!!!
The event had four scouts totally hooked (excuse the pun) who turned up at 8 am the following Saturday to try their luck in the Newport Angling open junior match!
The competition continues to build upon the strong link between Newport District, Newport Angling and the local tackle shops that always support the event providing fabulous prizes for everyone that attends – full rigs, whips, rod rests, packs of floats – there’s prizes for guys that don’t even get a catch on the day (we’ve all been there!) – so if you have never taken part and want something for nothing, come along next year. A big thank you to all those that organised and attended the event.
