24TH NEWPORT GO TO HEWISH WOODS TAUNTON

SCOUTING IN NEWPORT

The first weekend of the summer holidays saw the 24th Newport scouts loading up a small mounting of equipment and scouts and heading off to Hewish woods Scout campsite, just outside Taunton.

After a few hours sat in a massive car park also known as the motorway we arrived in one piece at our new home for the week, the site was very busy with about 800 people on site! Our site was on the main field, lots of room to play!

First task was to set up camp, take it down, set it up etc until D & G were happy, No easy task! Then it was time for our first activity, air rifle shooting, a quick drink and off to bed for our midnight snack.

We took part in loads of activities during the week both onsite and off including swimming, aerial runway, assault coarse, caving, woodland crafts, disco, curling, skittles, sports and many others.

The week finished with a site wide campfire lead by the leaders camping on the site, including our troop, whist the leaders lead some songs we ran the “Enlarging Machine”

With a lot of persuading we got up early on the Saturday morning to pack up, load the van and get on the bus for home.

When we got back to the hut we unloaded the van and we were met by our parents, tired happy, and glad to be home, a chance to get some sleep!
