Jamboree on the Air.
The
district held its first Jamboree on the Air over a full weekend in
October. The Scouts were supported by Radio Ham members, some of which
are active members of the district and a couple are Scouts.
The
team set up a number of aerials so they had the best possible chance of
contacting other Scouts around the world. A number of Beavers, Cubs,
Scouts and Explorer Scouts dropped in to find out what it was all about
and some end up stay for a number of hours.
The weekend was also a chance to find out about GSP navigation and to use it to navigate a short hike/walk around the local area. The walk also allowed the radios on 2 meters to also be used. This was the opportunity for a 12 year Scout to use his Ham Call sign for the first time. [A BIG STEP].
A number of Scouts stayed all weekend and had to prepare their own meals! All survived!
