DC's Bit
Well what a time we have had in just a short time. We all seem to have spent most of the last four weeks together on Quality Fun Scouting. Well done to the Scouts who took part in the district mountain biking? I was pleased with the turn out and I know those scouts who took part had a great time if not a little tired at the end of the day.

Not to be outdone the Cubs held their own bike event.
This time I took my own bike to have a go at the challenge the cubs took on, (no I was not the last back)!. This was a much dryer day with the sun all day. Again this was a well-supported event, with a big thank you to the team of leaders, scouts and parents who ensure the safety and fun for all.

Many leaders from all parts of Newport took part in our first 'Back to Basics' day with everyone finding out how to offer Safe Walking for the Cubs and Scouts, and also told ourselves how little we knew. Again this was a day full of information and fun. We also found time for discussion on what we need to know about Canoe MOT'S - other training days to come! so watch this space.

Many thanks to everyone who attended the District AGM; this was once again very well supported with many having to stand. Well done to all who had awards presented on the night. Our guest speaker who informed us on his efforts as part of the British Team helping to find trapped people in the Turkey earthquake moved us all!!. This was another evening spent seeing and talking to old mates and we all had a free feed. Thanks to all who worked so hard to ensure a fun (yes fun) AGM.

Well what a great time we all had during the 'Walk for the World' and picnic. Some 250 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, leaders, Parents and Supporters enjoyed the warmth of the sun a great walk, picnic and games at the finish, with members of the family of Scouting.

As I write this bit I am like you making last minute plans to ensure the 2000 Camp goes as well as all the recent district activities. So we can see the results of joining and working as one the 'TEAM'. What fun it can be for all - well done to everyone.

                Millennium Camp
Unfortunately just as Go for a Million Camp the rain came and stayed until the tents came down. But this did not dampen the atmosphere, or the enthusiasm of the campers. As during my short stay all appeared to be enjoying the mud and activities. Next month we hope to print further report and some photographs.

Many thanks to the Newport Team in particular Mike and Nigel for their efforts over the past 18 months, in the liaison with Tredegar House Staff and others. Also we need to thank Bob and his team at Tredegar House for their support once again.
