September so its’ fishing competition time!

What a great way to start the scouting new year – having fun learning or improving a skill with your mates on two Saturdays in the warm dry late summer sun.

The first Saturday saw a very keen group of scouts from across the city, with their fishing gear and most important pack lunch and other goodies to enjoy during the day.

After lunch on the first Saturday and a chance to have a game with your mates new and old with the ball [Must ask for it back]! Over the fence again! So back to the fishing now on the fish lakes – the excitement level was almost electric! There we where with our tackle at the ready [fishing] – would the fish be like us scout ‘prepared’ and swim to the other bank or play ball [again] just a saying!

Time to put all our training to the test – Was it! – no o! - it got away! – O my line made a bird nest of itself [AGAIN] you could hear the small team of trainers thinking! But yes a number of fish and eels did give themselves up. So there was these fish on the end of line! HELP you could see the scouts now having to touch a moving and very unhappy fish from their lines!

The BIG DAY

Second Saturday again bathed in the warm sun of early autumn –but this time it we where fish for the Glory of our troops / packs by catching the best and heavies fish. So after three and half hours the fishing came too a stop! Time to see who had had not caught a fish and to see the mass of fish catch by the rest this year! Well it seemed this year was a record year with the number of fish caught and 6lb the winning weight a record! Great to see parents and families making a morning of the event staying, having a family meal and real supporting their scout and enjoying scouting as a family.

Well done all the cubs and scouts for doing so well and a big thank you to Glyn and Gareth for their hard work ensuring another year of great scouting on the lakes!  GREAT START.
