WINGS 2009

"Four members of Newport Scout Fellowship provided 'active support' at WINGS2009, the Windsor Inter-National Guide and Scout jamboree, during the summer holidays. Two members assisted with the craft activity and the other two were in the administration team. A great time was had by all.

WINGS2009 was held in Her Majesty's Great Park at Windsor and was attended by 5,000 Scouts and Guides from 24 countries around the world, supported by 600 staff. Several units from around Wales were there, with Gwent being represented by Scout Groups from Gilwern and Griffithstown, plus the FreeSpirit Explorers from Torfaen.

The sub-camps were named after inventors of common everyday items, one of whom was Harington (see photo for what he invented!!). The other sub camps were Brunel, De Havilland, Bell, Morland and Archimedes. The next WINGS is in 2014 - see you there?"
