STARTED ON A HIGH AND FINISH ON HIGH
2007 started with a large number of us climbing and walking over the Newport Transporters Bridge during the first few hours of the New Year. So it seems only right that we mark the end of the year with an equally interesting and challenging activity?
Well up came the District Scout
Section Co-ordinated through the 1 st Wentwood group who put together a
walk/hike in the Wentwood area. So the last Saturday of December was the
day we were all invited to attend the last walk of 2007.
So in a week that had seen wet and even wetter weather; the day was set with sunny and dry weather [if a little muddy underfoot]. There where 3 possible routes each with an approx travelling time and challenge. Being scouts and yes we brought with us our parents and friends who also wanted to take part! A real family outing! The was the BIG hike through Wentwood up to Grey hill and back from the HQ, the next was from the main car park below Grey hill with the route up to Grey Hill and back to the car park or the third route from the HQ around the quarry and back to the HQ.
Two main walking groups choose route 1 and route 3. No one used route 2 [Too simple]? After the hike and the adventure of navigating through the deepest forest of Wentwood, safely we return to the HQ where hot food and drink awaited and a chance to share our thoughts on how well we got round the route without losing anyone [Never mind].
Well done the District Scouting Team for putting on a great activity which all enjoyed. What a way to remember the end of a very special year. The event also raised over one hundred pounds for the scout section charity of the year HHI.
