Why
Volunteer
The
Scouting Community Worldwide relies on its adult volunteers to
enable it to provide Scouting to its membership. All Scouting in Newport
is done on a voluntary basis and new people are always welcome to join
the Scouting "family".
Volunteering
is a very rewarding way of putting something back into your community
and a great way of meeting new people.
How
can I help?
There
are a wide range of opportunities for you to help within the District,
ranging from Section Leaders and helpers at the cutting face, to the
support networks of Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, etc within groups
that keep the group running. These backroom teams contribute to
the day to day running of the groups by organising hut maintenance,
fundraising etc leaving the leaders to get on with the fun stuff!
Many
of the opportunities do not necessarily have contact with the youth
members but instead support the section leaders (e.g. badge secretary)
The
appointments available to you are wide and varied and can be tailored to
match your skills. It is likely that you will be working as part of a
team alongside some of the many experienced uniformed and non uniformed
members.
You
do not have to have any previous experience or any specialist skills to
become part of Scouting. There is a wide variety of training available
at both a local and regional level to help you fulfil the role that you
want to undertake. The new modular training scheme enables individuals
to tailor training to their own requirements and availability of time.
The
District already has a wide range of people giving time using skills
from their professional careers as well as their hobbies and interests.
Many of these skills are too specialised for most of our members (We
cant all be good at everything).
If
you have a specialist skill including........
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
- Survival
Skills instructor
|
|
- or
any other instructor qualification
|
- Web
designer!!!!?? (please, we need someone that knows what
they are doing)
|
.......then
we would like to hear from you! (Some of these skills are already being
put to good use in Newport Scouting but two heads can sometimes be
better than one!). All of these skills can be utilised by Scouting in
the 21st Century.
How
much time will I need to give?
The
District needs people with wide ranging skills for both warranted and
non uniformed appointments. The amount of time you give will depend on
the role that you undertake and the amount of time you have to give.
How
do I volunteer?
The
first step is to contact
us! Let us know what you are interested in and we will find you the
most suitable appointment and get you started.
